Despite biting winds across all the pitches, cadets from all six ATC Regions, including CVQO Duke of Westminster Award 2011 finalist Luke Horobin (pictured), competed in the Inter-Region Senior Hockey and Soccer Championships at RAF College Cranwell recently.

 After an initial 300 nominations, 21 finalists were chosen to take part in a gruelling 36-hour selection event run in partnership with outdoor adventure specialists Outposts, based in the Quantock Hills, Somerset. Patrick Russell talks to the some of the finalists, to Guy Horridge from CVQO and first, to the Duke of Westminster about why he lends his name to his prestigious award. Who will be the nine winners? Day two of CVQO’s Duke of Westminster Award selection event is now drawing to a close, with the main three elements of the selection process almost complete. Each candidate has faced rigorous mental and physical challenges today, in order to win a coveted place on the amazing three week expedition to South Africa.

An incredible 100 cadets from Greater Manchester have signed up for the CVQO-led level 1 BTEC Level during their Easter camp. Patrick Russell spent a day with GMACF at their Holcombe Moor training centre talking to cadets and Commandant Col Mike Glover, as well as Lt Col Glyn Potts about why GMACF have decided to make such a commitment to the CVQO programme.

Today the selection event for CVQO’s Duke of Westminster Award began, with all 21 candidates arriving at Outposts Ltd, an Outdoor Adventure specialists in the Quantock Hills, Somerset for the 36 hour challenge which will decide which nine finalists will win the prize of a lifetime – a three week expedition to South Africa.

 The Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training (CCAT) is running British Canoe Union 3 star training and assessments, and 4 star kayak training courses in Durance Valley, France on the 2^nd – 9^th June 2012 during the half-term.
