Every year, CVQO's most outstanding learners from across the UK are nominated for the Duke of Westminster Award - a prestigious and challenging competition delivered by CVQO and sponsored by the charity's patron.
The final nine win a place on an exciting three week adventure in South Africa, and the overall winner will be announced at a ceremony and lunch held this year at the Ironmonger's Hall, London.
In addition, the selection event held in April will earn each finalist a Level 3 qualification in Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
2012 - The competition so far
After an initial 300 nominations, 21 CVQO learners competed in a 36 hour selection event ran in partnership with Outposts, an outdoor adventure specialists, based in the Quantock Hills, Somerset.
They came from across the UK, and included the first candidate from St John Ambulance.
They were put through their paces in a series of mental and physical challenges, and have recently found out which nine are heading to South Africa.

That sounds fantastic! What do I need to do?
To be nominated, you'll need to prove you have what it takes. You need to have commitment, drive and determination and a real interest in your community. You also must be enrolled with CVQO, or have previously completed a CVQO-led qualification.
Only one nomination can be made per contingent, District, County or Wing if you are a member of the cadet forces, and this will need to be endorsed by the Contingent Commander, District Officer, Commandant or Wing OC.
If you are nominated, the competition begins. Hundreds of nominations are placed each year, and only 21 candidates make it through to the next stage. Check the CVQO website, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages from October 2012 for next year's nomination form.
