Karen Barr

Born and raised in Hull, Yorkshire, where at 17 she joined the WRAC a driver. After serving at Bicester and in Belfast, Karen married a soldier and moved to Germany. Whilst in Germany Karen spent her spare time working with the Guide movement. After 17 years in Germany they returned home to Yorkshire. Karen started work as an Instructional Officer, at DST Leconfield, working with service personnel whilst they were carrying out their trade training. Karen on returning home joined the Army Cadet Force. Karen is also the County BTEC Officer; over the past 7 years she has promoted the BTEC in her County, encouraging a large number of cadets to complete the Award. She is now enjoying her role as Ops Manager overseeing cadets in the Yorkshire region.

Judie Barr

Born in Munster, Germany, Judie remained in Germany with her family till she was 15, when she returned to Hull to finish her education. Judie is a qualified children’s nursery nurse. Judie has served in the RAF and Royal Navy, and has spent time with the London Irish TA in London. She is an accomplished piper and loves her music. Judie has also worked as an adult instructor in the ACF and she is now passing on her varied experiences to the cadets in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region.

Richard Allen

Richard was born in Kent and joined the Army as a musician in 1984. After training at the Guards Depot and attending Riding School with the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment he joined the Band of The Life Guards. He participated in 22 Queen’s Birthday Parades amongst many other State and Ceremonial occasions. A highlight was being part of the State Trumpet team that played fanfares in the Guildhall in front of over 40 Heads of State for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Banquet. He has travelled abroad widely; including a tour of duty with A Squadron, The Life Guards where he completed a free-fall parachute course.
He was principle clarinet for 10 years with The Life Guards and WO2 Band Corporal Major for his final four years before posting to the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall as a WO1, where he was responsible for recruiting musicians into the Army. His final year in the Army was spent as the Permanent Staff Admin Officer for the Band of The Royal Yeomanry. Richard continues to perform on his clarinet and is a member of The Life Guards Band Comrades Association Committee. He is interested in military history and is passionate about all things to do with the British countryside.
