Why earn a vocational qualification?

Realise your potential by gaining a recognised qualification that shows employers the valuable skills you have learned within the Cadet Forces. The vast experience and achievements gained through cadet-related activities can be rewarded academically, giving you qualifications that you can use in all walks of life. A vocational qualification shows employers that you have proven an ability to carry out the relevant tasks for that award, possibly enhancing your employability and promotion prospects.

What is an NVQ?

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are designed to meet the standards set by industry in particular occupational areas. They are designed to cover various aspects of a job area of work, assessing the skills actually used in the workplace. They can ve completed unit by unit, enabling you to build up to a qualification in your own time. A mix of mandatory and optional units can enable you to tailor the qualification to fit your particular role.

What are Senior Awards?

This terminology is used to describe the Licentiateship, Graduateship and Membership awards.

Who will benefit from the Licentiateship, Graduateship and Membership awards?These Senior Awards are ideal for instructors who are looking for a qualification that acknowledges their achievements within the Cadet Forces. These awards provide formal recognition of professional expertise and skills at the higher levels.

What is a City & Guilds Reflective Report?

A Reflective Report is your commentary on how you feel you meet the key criteria. You will need to demonstrate the application of specific skills and competencies learned whilst attending the Officer’s Course. E.g. Officers’ Initial Course, Command Course, or KGVI Course.

What is a City & Guilds Portfolio Report?

This is a collation of evidence that supports how you meet the required criteria. The evidence can range from memos, letters, agendas, lesson plans, appraisals, witness testimonials, to audio and/or visual recordings. All of the evidence should demonstrate your ability to meet the award standards.

 

A thesis is an essay based document that displays the results of your research against a predefined topic. The theses for the awards offered by CVQO have a minimum word count (Graduateship 2500 or 5000 words for Membership) and must be written using a specific report structure. The latter is a standard that is required by the Awarding Body (City & Guilds).

 

Should you require guidance on your work prior to formal submission, please email a draft copy of your work to the Adult Awards Team. Please only submit pages that are relevant to one of the given criteria, rather than submit the whole report. You have two years from date of registration to complete the requirements.

Do Grandfather Rights apply to required courses?

YES, for the Licentiateship, Graduateship, and Membership.
NO, for the ILM Award in First Line Management.

Do I gain any CATS / Credit points for any of these Senior Awards?

At present the answer is no, as the Awarding Bodies do not offer them against these awards.

Can I get sponsorship?

If your employer agrees to sponsor you, CVQO can make the necessary arrangements and invoice your company directly. If you feel your employer might be interested in sponsoring you,email  CVQO Adult Awards Department or download the employer sponsorship form.
