Award Overview
CVQO in conjunction with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) is offering the ILM Award in Leadership to instructors who have completed the Sea Cadet Corps Leadership Instructors Course. This is a Level 5 qualification and has been designed to give practising or potential officers the foundation for formal development within middle management.
Eligibility
The qualification cannot be gained retrospectively and thus any adult wishing to complete this award must register with CVQO whilst attending the SCC Leadership Instructors Course.
At present, CVQO can only offer the Level 5 Award to the SCC.
Personal Skills and Performance Criteria
The award is made up of one mandatory unit, ‘Assessing your own leadership capability and performance.’ Within this unit are modules which have been fully mapped against your course.
The learning outcomes of the course will enable you to firstly review the prevailing leadership styles in your organisation. Secondly, review the motivation and commitment to the organisation’s values and goals amongst the people you lead and thirdly review your own leadership effectiveness, and identify ways to improve your own performance.
Delivery
Within one month of course completion you will be required to complete and return your Reflective Review. This review will further demonstrate your understanding of prevailing leadership styles, your levels of motivation and commitment amongst the people you lead, and the ability to critically review your own effectiveness as a leader.
Your review should have a nominal word count of 1500 words. Your course generated presentation notes and Daily Journal also form part of the required qualification evidence.
Assessment
After completing the SCC Leadership Instructors Course and enrolling for the ILM Level 5 Award, your Course Instructor will provide you with your Candidate Handbook. CVQO will then confirm your registration, and you must send your Reflective Review to CVQO within 30 days of completing your course.
The written work will move through three assessment stages before a Pass result can be confirmed by CVQO.

This can take anywhere between 10 -12 weeks. You will be awarded a pass, or be asked to resubmit your assignments with amendments. If it is the latter, you will receive constructive feedback from the Assessor and Internal Verifier on how best to achieve this.

All registration fees are subsidised and CVQO offer an ‘Easy Payment’ method, of payment by instalments should Adults require it.
