The surprise took place during the “Celebration of Youth” concert at Kneller Hall where the Pipe band were invited to perform as part of the season of summer attractions. Cadet Warrant Officer Ben Mc Donald , Cadet Flight Sergeant Darren Lynch and Cadet Flight Sergeant Dominic Hodge all gained the (four GCSE equivalent) award over the last two years as part of their Air Cadet activity.

“I am so proud of all the young people” said 2513 Squadron Commander David Law “ and especially these cadets who have been recognised tonight at a top notch place such as this, bursting with music history and quality. Well done to all of them”. By special permission of the Air Commodore the kilted Romney cadets were allowed to don the Royal Air Force tartan to appear in public south of the border. And didn’t they play well, wooing their appreciative audience with the ever popular Highland Cathedral and of course Scotland the Brave.

Chief Royal Military School of Music Instructor Major Keith Roberts beamed as he presented CVQO Music BTECs on Wednesday to three Romney Marsh Air Cadets in front of nearly a thousand concert goers at Twickenham’s prestigious Kneller Hall – home of the Army School of Music. And for once the breath was taken out of Piper McDonald from 2513 Squadron ATC as they were all called forward to receive the award.
