UCAS AND BTEC
 
Overview
At present there are currently no UCAS points credited for Level 2 Qualifications such as the BTEC First Diploma. There is talk of this changing in the future.
 
The qualification is however still a valuable one to include in your UCAS form as it shows a breadth of interest outside normal academic achievement.
 
How do I complete the relevant parts of the UCAS electronic form?
You will need to provide the following information when asked:
Centre number: 01383
Centre name: Cadet Vocational Vocation Organisation
 
Click on “ add qualifications” with your School’s / College’s name.
New Page:- A-Z appears, select “B” for BTEC.
Scroll third down to:- “BTEC 1st Diploma”. Click on.
 
New page. BTEC 1st Diploma. Enter:-
Title: by clicking on arrow, select “Public Services”.
Date: If you have completed the course you will enter the date on your certificate, if not put in a projected date.
Awarding Body: click on arrow and select “Edex”.
Result: click on arrow and select “Pending” if you have not completed the Diploma.
If you have, select the overall grade from the list provided.
 
Module / Unit 1
Units:- Enter the Code / Title of Unit 1.
Date:- Click on the arrow and enter the date of completion or, if pending, a projected date.
Value:- Enter “Core” 60 hrs
Result:- Click on the arrow and select the appropriate answer from the list
Click on “add another module” and repeat the process for Units 2 and 3.
For Units 6, 8, 13, or, 14.
You will have completed 3 of the Units above.
The only change to the procedure is: For “Value”:- enter “Optional” 60 hrs.
 
Further Diploma details required for the UCAS forms – check your Edexcel Registration number carefully to ensure correct qualification details used.
The Edexcel Registration Number uses the format LNNNNN – ie Z012345.
 
Where do I find my BTEC Reference Number?
You will have been notified of your individual BTEC Reference Number in our welcome letter sent to you after you registered, otherwise please contact your Unit VQ Officer.

DUKE OF WESTMINSTER AWARD
 
Overview
 
What are the criteria
To be considered for the Duke of Westminster Award, Cadets must possess a wide range of skills and abilities and have demonstrated these attributes through a consistently high level of commitment and achievement throughout his/her Cadet career.
 
Cadets are nominated by their unit headquarters and must be enrolled in CVQO's BTEC Programme in order to be eligible for the award.
 
CVQO accepts nominations from: CCF Contingent Commanders, SCC Area Officers, ACF Commandants and ATC OC Wings.
The nomination process involves a topical piece of work submitted by the cadet, followed by a selection event for the final 15 shortlisted cadets.

 Selection Event
CVQO will host a 36 hour selection process in the Quantock Hills where the cadets are assessed in a variety of team tasks. 15 cadets from the CCF, SCC, ACF and ATC are shortlisted from the nominations.
 
Not only is each cadet competing for this highest accolade from CVQO but also for a place as one of the top nine cadets to participate in a three week expedition to South Africa.
 
Awards Ceremony
The Duke of Westminster Award Ceremony is held at a prestigious luncheon at the Cavalry and Guards Club in London. The winning Cadet is presented with Duke of Westminster Award trophy along with a certificate and a £500 cash prize. There are also four category prizes of £250.
 
In addition the top nine finalists will be invited to a three week, expenses paid expedition to South Africa.
 
South Africa Expedition
Nine Cadets will depart for a three week expedition to South Africa, where they will undertake an environmental awareness course in Kwa Zulu Natal and a cultural project working with and teaching orphaned children. They will also visit Rorke’s Drift, Isandlwana and take part in a walking safari.
