Thurrock Unit SCC has now had six BTEC First Diplomas in Engineering issued, with several more currently being undertaken.

The cadets who received their Diplomas were Able Cadet Catherine Sheppard, Leading Cadet Ashley Atkinson and Leading Cadet Kieran Risk. Also photographed is Mr Jeremy Knight of the Founders Company, CPO (SCC) Sue Stupples, Lt (SCC) George Wilson RNR, and Cdr Paul Haines RN, London’s Area Officer.

Ashley and Kieran are both on the maintenance team of Thurrock Unit’s training ship, ex- HMS IVESTON.  Lt (SCC) George Wilson RNR, leader of the Maintenance team, said, “Both cadets regularly give up their time to assist in maintaining and operating the ship. Their BTEC qualifications are being put to good use on a very regular basis!”

Sea Cadets achieve BTECs in Engineering

 A presentation of BTEC certificates recently took place at Thurrock Unit Sea Cadet Corps, with three cadets being presented with their BTEC First Diplomas in Engineering (Maintenance). The qualifications, earned through CVQO and the SCC, are worth the equivalent of 4 GCSEs grade A*- C each.
