Lt Col Richard Hemmings, Deputy Commandant and VQ Officer of 1st Bn the Highlanders ACF, has recently held a number of training courses at Dingwall Cadet Training Centre for BTEC cadets.

25 cadets from all over the north of Scotland and the Western Isles were involved in the training, with all the work a part of their BTEC Diplomas.

Despite the atrocious weather during January’s event, most of the students managed to attend the first course, with twelve studying Diplomas in Public Services and two working towards their BTEC First Diplomas in Music. February’s course included eleven cadets from four companies, and after a weekend of intensive work, the hard work had paid off and all the cadets involved were much closer to achieving their qualifications.

A BTEC First Diploma completed through CVQO is a qualification worth the equivalent of four GCSEs. The majority of the work involved is covered by cadet syllabus.
