BTEC air cadets from Devon & Somerset Wing Music Flight were present at Taunton Armed Forces Charity Day recently, and helped raise over £50,000 for the cause, whilst also taking part in a nationwide Olympic initiative.

Joining army and sea cadets from the area, the cadets provided entertainment and marshalling, with the Music Flight providing ceremonial buglers and traditional music. Held at Taunton Football Club, the day featured two football matches, one of which involved the home team playing the Royal Marines, drawing a crowd of around 2000 people.

At 11pm, over 2012 musicians nationwide played a suite of football related tunes to add to the carnival atmosphere, in the style of the England Supporters Band. They were joined on drums by Councillor Mary Champion, Mayor of Wootton Bassett and the day’s guest of honour.

Adding significant volume at the pitch side was cadet Ed Heard, who is close to completing his BTEC First Diploma in Music with CVQO, playing the cornet, and Jake Rosen on trombone, who has recent enrolled for the qualification.
